International Travel Advisories, Passport and Visas

Foreign-national faculty and staff traveling on a visa should consult with the International Student and Scholar Office prior to departure to ensure proper documentation and travel precautions are in place.

Vaccinations and Health Requirements

In addition to the US State Department country-specific webpage, consult the (CDC) and the (WHO) for recommended vaccinations and health precautions for your destination. If you do need any immunizations contact your doctor or a travel medical clinic such as .

If you take prescription medicine, research whether it is available in your host country and bring a copy of the prescription for the generic name of the drug. If you have any favorite over-the-counter remedies that you use, you may want to take an initial or full year鈥檚 supply.

Comprehensive Travel Insurance

Consider enrolling in an overseas health and accident insurance plan that covers, at a minimum, emergency medical care and treatment, hospitalization, physician charges, medical evacuation, repatriation, and medical reunion. Most U.S. health insurance plans have limited coverage abroad and rarely include medical evacuation, repatriation, or family reunion benefits, so consider purchasing supplemental coverage for the duration of your time abroad. Maintain your U.S. insurance to ensure continuous coverage for any pre-existing conditions. You may also consider trip protection coverage to safeguard your investment in case of delays or unexpected circumstances impacting your travel.

Familiarize yourself with the cultural customs and practices of the destination country, and understand local laws and regulations to avoid legal issues while abroad.
