The Study Abroad & Away Office welcomes early, informal consultation by faculty and academic units for program planning and encourages coordinated programming within and among departments.

Proposal Application and Guidelines

NOTE: Given the time and resources required to develop faculty-led programs, programs must run in the same location at least twice before a different location can be proposed. Exceptions may be considered by the Faculty Committee on Study Abroad/Away Faculty-Led Programs subcommittee on a case-by-case basis.

Proposal Deadlines

Complete proposal packets must be submitted to the department chair(s) and college dean(s) for review via the at least two weeks prior to the deadlines below. It is the faculty member鈥檚 responsibility to ensure the complete and fully signed proposal is received by the Study Abroad & Away Office by the deadline.

Proposals must be received by the Study Abroad & Away Office no later than:
Minimester or Spring Break 2028: NOVEMBER 1, 2026
Summer 2028: APRIL 1, 2027

Although the deadlines may appear to be early, proposals must be received by this date in order to allow sufficient time for review, development, and recruitment.

Submitting a Proposal

Study abroad (outside the U.S) and study away (within the U.S. and U.S. territories) program proposals should originate with faculty and carry the endorsement of the chair(s) and dean(s) of the sponsoring 91影视破解版 department(s) and college(s). Academic units and colleges are responsible for review of program and course subject matter and instructional delivery methods. 91影视破解版 courses offered abroad or domestically must be of comparable academic rigor to those offered on campus and offer significant enhancement to the on-campus offerings.

NOTE: Due to the critical role the faculty director plays in recruitment for the program, faculty who will be absent from campus (sabbatical, extended leave, etc.) for any part of the academic year prior to the proposed program may not be eligible to apply. Review Process

Faculty-led Program Proposals Review Committee Considerations (PDF)

Proposals endorsed by the relevant academic department chair(s) and college dean(s) will be reviewed by the Faculty-Led Programs Subcommittee of the Faculty Committee on Study Abroad/Away. Assessment criteria include but are not limited to the following:

  • Number of programs, disciplines, and locations needed for each term
  • Number of programs (repeat and new) that can be managed based on Study Abroad/Away staff resources
  • Anticipated student interest/demand in course(s) (prerequisites, # relevant majors/minors, cross-listing with other academic departments)
  • Anticipated student interest/demand in location/region
  • Feasibility of program itinerary, logistics, and budget*
  • Opportunities for cultural immersion/exposure to the local culture/community
  • Faculty member鈥檚 ability to promote the program and recruit students
  • Previous enrollment numbers (repeat programs only)

*All study abroad and away programs must be financially self-supporting, which means all costs of the program are met by charging the students the necessary fee. The program must not be designed in such a way as to not make it too expensive for students from a variety of economic situations.

The subcommittee may request additional information to inform the review process. Faculty members will be notified within one month of the proposal deadline regarding the outcome of their proposal.
